David Menayo is one of the most respected sports journalists in Spain, renowned for his tireless efforts to elevate the profile of women’s football in the country. As a sports journalist for Marca, Spain’s leading sports daily, he has consistently championed women’s football. Beyond his journalistic work, he is also the author of two books on women’s football , ‘El fútbol Femenino en 20 toques’ and ‘Vero Boquete; la Princesa del Deporte Rey’.
David was a guest speaker at the presentation of the study ‘The visibility of women’s sport in the media’, carried out by APPLE TREE in collaboration with Rebold. During his visit, we learned more about his career and commitment to women’s sports. “The sports press must treat men’s and women’s sports equally, and I would even go as far as to say they must ride the current feminist wave in society. At the end of the day, it has to be a reflection of sport and therefore give a voice to women’s sport. The evolution from a few years ago is remarkable. Sections have been created especially for women’s sports and programmes…” said Menayo during the APPLE TREE BYTES presentation.
David Menayo is a passionate advocate for women’s sports, and his unwavering support has earned him membership in prestigious international juries such as the “UEFA Women’s Player of the Year,” the Ballon d’Or, and the Guardian’s “Best Women’s Player of the Year.” Additionally, Menayo has been a professor in Marca’s On-Line Master and a thesis advisor for several doctoral students at various universities in the Community of Madrid.
