Five teams, five stars
NEW THINKING
What began as a tribute to the clubs turned into a great sporting event, attended by hundreds of media representatives and showcasing Mahou’s deep connection to its city of origin and its soccer culture.
ANALYSIS & INSIGHT
Few cities in the world can boast about having five teams in the first division of soccer and only a beer like MAHOU could bring together all five of Madrid’s top-tier teams together, setting aside rivalry for a day of unity.
STRATEGY & CREATIVITY
Taking advantage of a historic moment – when, for the first time, all five Madrid-based teams sponsored by MAHOU were playing in the same in LA LIGA EA SPORTS weekend – MAHOU played tribute by launching a very special collection of bottles: Cinco Estrellas, featuring exclusive designs for each of the five teams: Atlético de Madrid, Getafe CF, CD Leganés, Rayo Vallecano, and Real Madrid, plus a sixth commemorative bottle. The campaign celebrated the shared values of quality and community that unite MAHOU and Madrid soccer.
To mark the occasion, MAHOU brought the five teams together for a unique event: the first-ever joint pre-match press conference, uniting fans and players across the city.
Actions and Amplification
- Presentation Event: Held at LaLiga’s headquarters with the participation of iconic Madrid soccer figures including José María Gutiérrez “Guti”, David Villa, Mario Suárez, Martín Mantovani, and Esteban Granero – each representing one of the five clubs. Sports media were invited to attend, covering the launch and previewing the weekend’s matches.
- Press releases: Distribution of press releases before and after the event to maximize media coverage.
- Interviews: Management of one-to-one interviews with the legendary ambassadors.
- Special Edition: Release of 30 limited-edition cases with customized designs for each team, available through a sweepstakes on Instagram.
RESULTS
MAHOU’S “Five Teams, Five Stars” campaign has been a resounding success, not only in terms of visibility and reach, but also in reinforcing the emotional connection with soccer fans and the Madrid community through its purpose. Once again, Mahou has demonstrated that the power of matches can unite even the fiercest rivals.
